Dear Colleagues and Partners,

We are pleased to invite you to join the UNECE Policy Dialogue “Leveraging Diasporas to Promote Innovation for Sustainable Development”, which will be held online on 31 May 2021 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (CET). The policy dialogue is organised ahead of the session of the UNECE Committee on Innovation, Competitiveness and PPPs which will take place on 2-4 June 2021.

Whereas large emigration of skilled people may reduce innovation and economic dynamism in their countries of origin, the diaspora arising from sustained migration may be turned into an asset. From increasing trade and investment to promoting innovation and entrepreneurship for sustainable development, economic linkages between diaspora and their home countries have a significant potential.

This webinar brings together the leading experts and policymakers from the UNECE region to discuss the potential of diasporas in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship. You will learn more about:

Recent trends and drivers of migration and diaspora in the UNECE region

Impact and measurement of diasporas on innovation activity in the UNECE region

Best practices and most effective policies boosting the diaspora’s contribution to innovative development.

Please see the programme of the policy dialogue here attached.

The meeting will have simultaneous interpretation in English and Russian. A dry-run test will be organised few days before the meeting to give participants the opportunity to test the platform.

The link to join the meeting will be sent to registered participants the day before the meeting.

We hope you will be able to join us, and we will be very grateful if you could share the invitation and the programme with your colleagues and leading experts in your country.
